Day 4 - Quebec City to Shawinigan - text

In the morning we went for a quick swim in the Hotel’s marvelous 15m indoor pool. This was followed by a excellent breakfast that set us up for the day. We raced to the Citadel to catch a 9:30 guided tour that did not exist. So we joined the large group of people wanting to see the change of the Guards at 10 am. After a 35 min ceremony with all kinds of bells and whistles like bear skin caps, the regiment’s goat, the music platoon as well as the old and the new guards we finally got onto the guided tour. We learned that the citadel is camouflaged with grass, 2.3 skm, shaped in a 5 pointed star with a single entrance and a mace all around. We rushed back to the hotel for check out. Papa bought a picture and then we drove to Parc Nationale de la Mauricie. There we went for a picnic with cinnamon donut and half melted cheese. A 1km run to a nice lake followed, before we arrived at a sandy beach at a very refreshing lake. After a swim we needed to reheat our bodies and rented a canoe. In Shawinigan we found a very nice bar at the river, which concluded a trying day 4 of our trip.
